Miss. Olivia

Ms. Olivia, 72 years old, has lived in her home in Central City for the past 14 years. She takes care of her son, who has autism and is partially blind, and before retiring, cleaned houses for a living. Her extended family lives an hour away in St. James, Louisiana, where Ms. Olivia is originally from, but as Deaconist of the St. Thomas Church, she has a strong community of friends and neighbors.

Ms. Olivia and her son remained in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and had to be airlifted out of the city by helicopter when the city flooded. She and her son were separated for a week following the evacuation, making a difficult situation much worse. She and her son were reunited and returned to New Orleans in October of 2005. They found that their home had been robbed and a damaged roof had let in water ruining her walls and floors. Ms. Olivia was able to rebuild the interior of the house as well as repair the roof.

United Saints volunteers completed work on the exterior of the house. They repaired the siding and painted the exterior of the home.
