Ms. Harriet has lived in her two-story Central City home for the last 45 years. She and her family evacuated during Hurricane Katrina, and while her house was not flooded, the high winds damaged the siding on her home and allowed rain and moisture to get inside and destroy much of the interior. Since Ms. Harriet is disabled, she hasn’t been able to make repairs to the upstairs portion of her home.
The United Saints has helped to fix gaps in her home’s siding, as well as doing extensive work on the second story of the house. Volunteers have hung sheetrock, repaired plumbing, and painted the interior walls and ceilings. However, work still remains to be done in the upstairs kitchen and bedroom before Ms. Harriet’s home will be completely repaired.
