Ms. Josie is 75 years old. Three generations of her family has lived in her home on Jackson St. since 1984. Currently, Ms. Josie’s daughter Diana and son-in-law George reside there.Since Hurricane Katrina they have been working to make repairs to the home; the roof and siding were damaged by the high winds, and moisture got inside and damaged much of the interior. They were able to repair most of the siding by themselves, but asked the United Saints for help with fixing broken windows, patching some remaining siding gaps, and painting their home.
Thus far the United Saints volunteers have worked to replace broken glass, repair siding, and paint the house a bright ‘tulip’ purple with white trim. There still remains more work to be done, but Ms. Josie’s neighborhood already seems cheered up by the new color.
