Bishop Evans and the Greater Faith and Victory Worship Center
September 2011
As the first project for our team in Tuscaloosa, we are looking forward to helping the people of Greater Faith rebuild their church.
On April 27th, Tuscaloosa, Alabama was hit with an EF-5 tornado that traveled in excess of 220 miles across Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. The community was devastated and heartbroken at this traumatic event.
The Greater Faith and Victory Worship Center building was destroyed, along with homes and local businesses. Prior to the storm, the church’s largest ministry was a community dinner, where the church fed over 700 people each week. These efforts were paid for by church members, tithe and offering.
The United Saints will be helping the people of Greater Faith and Worship to restore their church. The tornado ripped the roof off of the church, which allowed for debris to fall inside the church and additional damage occurred after strong winds and rain have caused the church to flood.
Beginning in October, the United Saints are helping the people of Greater Faith. We will start with demolition and debris removal, then make every effort we can to help rebuild this building.
Project Update: February 2012
As of February of 2012, Greater Faith looks like a whole different building.
Bishop Evans invited the United Saints to come in and clean up the inside of the buildings. After weeks of knocking down walls, tearing up flooring, ripping down ceilings, sweeping, cleaning, picking up and dumping, volunteers were able to completely clear the inside of the buildings and classrooms. The walls are stripped down to the frame, the floors are solid cement and the rafters are now expose the rafters. The building is a shell just waiting to be revived.
Thanks to gracious donors, the church has been able to hire contractors to replace the roof on the sanctuary and Fellowship Hall facilities.
The next steps at Greater Faith will involve hanging insulation and sheet rock, and the process of carpeting will begin soon.
We are excited to see the improvements at Greater Faith and we look forward to standing with the congregation when it reopens.
